Job Summary:

This position requires a skilled, independent human resources professional to drive constant improvement in the human capital aspects of the business. Accordingly, the Vice President - People must have the ability to:

  • Serve as a thoughtful leader about work experience at the firm - frequently serving as the voice and face of senior management on that experience;
  • serve as an operational partner, closely in tandem with the Vice-President, Enterprise - and ultimately with managers across the organization, with ultimate reporting directly to the CEO;
  • take ownership of overarching human resource prerogatives, from conception to implementation to iteration;
  • draw from deep subject matter expertise, both as to human resources practice and broader employee engagement;
  • establish and maintain sustainable processes as to the collection and reporting of actionable data as to human capital and its management;
  • make evidenced-based decisions that support sustainable and organic solutions to the "people part" of business challenges;
  • model and demonstrate at all times an orientation of service to operating partners; and
  • model and demonstrate the core values of Community Tax, as well as the universal business values of predictability and transparency.

Job Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the full suite of human resource management tasks, including, without limitation, compensation and benefits administration, performance management, workplace culture, and compliance.

Compensation and Benefits Administration

  • Develop operational mastery of the Company's HRIS systems as to timekeeping, payroll, and benefits administration, including identifying and working with external developers to implement necessary improvements and efficiencies.
  • Execute timekeeping, payroll, and benefits functions with support staff providing daily, weekly, and monthly management of same.
  • In tandem with operating partners, establish and refine a compensation system that establishes a culture of predictability and fairness for employees, minimizes variance and errors, and complies with legal requirements.
  • Liaise with third party providers regularly to refine compensation and benefits framework.

Performance Management

  • Develop and maintain a sustainable evaluation system for relevant employees, leveraging technology and building managerial capacity.
  • Leverage technology, where possible, to solicit managerial and employee feedback on a continuous cycle and to store historical performance assessments in a manner calculated to ensure ease of access.
  • Achieve buy-in among operating partners for hands-on performance management and provide necessary support to develop performance metrics, to build data collection and reporting processes in support of those metrics, to refine coaching practice towards those metrics, and to embrace a "teaching is leading" ethos.
  • Develop, implement, and refine business-wide metrics at the Human Resources level to inform management practices as to costs, cost-savings, efficiency, and growth.
  • Partner with operating partners to be pro-active about performance issues, remediating whenever possible, successorship planning always, and concluding relationships when necessary.

Workplace Culture

  • Develop and implement a succession of workplace initiatives to drive workplace culture that prizes:

  • Establish and refine vox populi systems to measure and analyze human capital trends and refine management practices.
  • Develop and implement on-going changes to the visual environment to reinforce these initiatives.

Compliance and Recordkeeping

Maintain and refine established systems as to equal employment opportunity, leave, and accommodation, government insurance programs, taking ownership of all external reporting obligations.

  • In cooperation with the firm's Legal Department, conduct and facilitate, as necessary, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and mediation, consistent with legal requirements and Company values.
  • Establish and implement scheduled review and audit of all form and policy documents, working in tandem with internal and external legal counsel when necessary.
  • Plan and execute regular training and dialogue sessions on pertinent points of compliance.
  • Leverage technology, as necessary, for purposes of proper maintenance, storage, and production of business records in support of compliance efforts.

Experience, Education, and Skill Requirements:

  • Minimum of five-seven years of relevant experience required;
  • Four year degree required;
  • Spanish fluency preferred;
  • Formal human resources accreditation required;
  • Background in K-12 education desirable;
  • Competence and facility with HRIS Administration required;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Excel) required;
  • Ability to work with professionals at all levels required;
  • Strong verbal and written skills required;
  • Process management skills desirable; and
  • Self-sufficient and able to work with little direct supervision required.

This is not a standard workweek position.

This position is based in the firm's Jacksonville, Florida office - but will require regular travel to other work locations (namely, Chicago, Illinois and San Juan, Puerto Rico). While remote work options will be available within twelve months of start date, this position is ultimately envisioned as office based for the first year of work.

Individuals will need to sit and use a computer and phone throughout the work day and may need to stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching about shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. May include lifting up to 25 pounds for files, recruiting needs for job fairs, computer printouts on occasion. Proper lifting techniques required.

Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
