Quality Assurance Supervisor
Works closely with the plant's management team and QC Laboratory to provide accurate and timely analytical support to plant production teams, minimize the environmental impact, and ensure Divisional Quality system requirements are being met at the plant site. Coaches the plant management team and trains plant personnel on quality systems and best practices with the goal of preventing quality deficiencies and promoting continuous Improvement. Contributes to the building of positive plant and divisional quality culture.
Manage the Plant Quality system and QC Laboratory to support efficient production and to ensure all Omnium EQMS quality standards are upheld.
Monitor, review and evaluate the implementation and communication of Divisional Quality programs and Plant quality practices to ensure overall compliance and effectiveness.
Ensure QC Lab procedures are correctly written and executed and QC Lab equipment and instrumentation is properly maintained and is suitable to support the Plant's operations.
Assist lab technicians with training and problem solving to ensure analytical readiness and accuracy.
Control lab expense while still providing adequate training and materials to lab technicians and shift coverage to support production requirements
Provide Land O'Lakes and contract customer support to meet business objectives.
Provide accurate and timely reports to customers on analytical results.
Review QC laboratory data daily, make corrections, follow up issues and re-train personnel as needed.
Technically assist with product complaints and analyze samples from these complaints
Assist Divisional Quality Manager in maintaining risk-based QMS programs and procedures, ensuring divisional compliance and training needs are met.
Assist in auditing Omnium facilities for QMS compliance.
Contribute to Omnium quality systems improvements and updates.
Openly shares successes and improvement opportunities between plants to help realize divisional synergies in best practices.
Assist production teams on formulation solutions for out of specification batches to enhance productivity.
Recommend process controls to avoid out of specification batches
Interpret lab analysis and batch sheets to recommend the best "fix" for the out of specification batches.
Recommend process changes based on laboratory data, actual production issues, lab technicians and operators' input, and team leaders' feedback.
Provide a safe, hospitable work environment where cooperation and team collaboration are encouraged. Promote awareness and responsible impact to the environment.
Provide and perform regular safety training and schedule technicians to attend monthly safety meetings.
Initiate good housekeeping practices and schedule needed repairs on the facility in a timely manner.
Promote teamwork and respect for co-worker input & feedback.
Analyze environmental samples and recommend solution to operators and/or environmental specialists
Direct Reports include 4 to 6 Laboratory Technicians
Responsibility over QC laboratory with 10 analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, GCMS)
Supports QA for plant with 8 different formulation/production lines.
Member of the plant's issue response team.
Education and Experience:
B.S. or B.A. in Chemistry or related field
3 years experience as a lab technician or chemist in a chemical industry with some supervisory experience (leadership).
5 years experience as a lab technician or chemist in a chemical industry with some supervisory experience preferred (leadership).
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of lab safety requirements and environmental issues
Knowledge of general lab analytical equipment, including use, maintenance, repair, and training (managing those who are capable)
Knowledge of standard lab operating procedures and processes
Knowledge of expense control
Knowledge of human resources management
Computer skills-MS Word, Excel
Good mathematics skills and laboratory analytical techniques
Understanding of SPC (statistical process control) and its application Communication skills - oral and written
Ability to coordinate multiple projects and conflicting priorities
Ability to provide accurate and timely results with available equipment
Ability to work with a diverse range of people with appropriate manner and language
Ability to build up and maintain a team environment
Ability to train and empower technicians
Ability to perform trouble shooting and problem solving related to HPLC and GC equipment & general issues.
